A Baddeley-Littler rare form of tea canister and cover, circa 1785

Of ovoid shape on a pedestal foot with shallow fluted body, enamelled with two Chinese figures in a garden beside a fence and flowers in vases. The lid with a flower knop and two applied leaves.

Height: 17.2cm

Condition: Canister, chip approx. 1.5cm to rim professionally repaired; a small crack to base.  Cover, flower knop reapplied, tiny chips to petals and one leaf, a firing fault to inside rim of cover, and slight staining typical of this group which has been referred to as the ‘caddy class’. The cover contemporary but possibly matched.
