An early Bow teapot, circa 1748

Painted in blue with rockwork, pine trees, bamboo and peony, and with an large incised cross to base.

This delightful small pot seems early, perhaps with elements in common with the ‘scratch R’ class, although the brighter blue colour of the painting and solidity of the potting might indicate a date a year or two later.

Height:  12.4 cm

Marks:  Large incised cross to base

Condition:  Tiny nicks to end of spout, 1.3 cm hairline to rim

Price: £1,450

Note: A paper inscription inside the teapot refers to “‘Frank Tilley F.R.S.A. ‘Teapots & Tea’ (Publ. The Ceramic BK .Co) Pl. XXI, no.68. From AT Morley Hewitt Collection, Fordingbridge, Hants”, where it would appear an identical, or possibly the same, pot is illustrated.
