A rare Worcester teapot stand, circa 1754-55

The stand ‘pencilled’ in black and over-painted with coloured enamels in the Boy on a Buffalo pattern;  the reverse with three short leafy branches.

This use of coloured enamels on a pencilled piece is unusual and probably occurred when there had been difficulties in firing, as in the example here, where the kiln speckling is quite widespread, with blackening to the base.

Diameter: 13.9 cm

Marks: None

Condition:  Widespread kiln speckling to the glaze and blackening to base

For a similar example of the decoration, see Bonhams, 12 February 2026, lot 195, a rare Worcester sparrow beak jug , where it is quoted that this  pattern was typically ‘pencilled’ in black at Worcester and that it is exceedingly rare to find a coloured version.
