A Chelsea lobed tea bowl and saucer, decorated with a landscape scene in Meissen style, circa 1753

Diameter of saucer 11.8 cm
No mark

Painted scene of two figures with barrels, a tree to the foreground of lake, figure and buildings in the distance, and the teabowl with birds in flight. This form of decoration in Meissen style at this period was largely confined to the Chelsea factory in English porcelain. The style was artistically difficult and was largely discontinued by 1755.

Condition: Very small fault to foot rim of saucer, probably a firing crack.
