A Philip Christian, Liverpool, small bowl, circa 1768

Painted in underglaze blue with a very speckled bird on a flowering paeony, an insect on the reverse of the bowl. The greenish translucency would suggest a steatitic body.

Diameter:  12.1cm

No mark

Condition:  a tiny rim chip, see image

See Steven Goss, British Blue and White Saucers 1745-1795, pls. 230, 266 and 272 for discussion of the slight variations in this pattern used by James Pennington, Richard Chaffers and Philip Christian
