A rare Chelsea Derby ladle, circa 1775-80

Length 19.1cm
No mark

Tureens with ladles were in production from the early 1760s and possibly earlier, but the ladles were fragile and are rare survivors. It is unusual to see insect painting on what were essentially utilitarian objects.

Condition: Very good, no chips, cracks or restoration

For a ladle of this shape with tureen, see Bonhams, Fine British Pottery and Porcelain, 9 Sept. 2009, lot 261.
