A rare Chelsea ornithological subject teabowl, circa 1755

Painted with birds from the Natural History of Uncommon birds, Volumes I and II, by George Edwards, published in 1751. One side of the teabowl is painted with the ‘Brown Indian Dove’ seated on a branch bearing berries, Plate 76, the reverse with ‘the White Partridge’, Plate 72. The interior has a winged insect.

Condition: Slight kiln speckling to interior. 2 mm hairline on rim above the dove, another 2mm hairline to to the rim further to the right.
