A rare early Worcester tall coffee cup, circa 1753

Of quatrefoil lobed shape, with a double scroll handle.  It is painted in vibrant colours with a ‘Long Eliza’ figure holding a parasol, the other sides with a bird on a flowering plant, a paeony and rocks.

Height 6.5 cm

No mark.

Condition: The cup has five small filled rim chips varying in size from one of 2mm to the largest of 5mm, a feint 5mm hairline where the small filled chip is, just to the left of the handle, and a tiny glazed-over nick to the base from manufacture.

There are six patterns recorded in this rare shape. The majority are painted in colours but an early black pencilled cup is known, as is a blue painted example.
