A rare Worcester saucer, painted in blue with the ‘Heron on a Floral Spray’ pattern, circa 1758-60

It shows a heron standing on a lotus leaf which is painted with delicate shading, the design copied from Chinese porcelain. The border is painted with flowers and swirls.

Condition:  5cm crack extending from the rim towards the bird at 11 o’clock.

See Spero, S. And Sandon, J., Worcester Porcelain 1751-90, The Zorensky Collection, pl. 548 for a similar saucer, where it is noted that only a small number of cups, teabowls and saucers and other teaware shapes have been recorded in this pattern.
