A rare Worcester two-handled sauceboat, circa 1755

This crisply moulded large sauceboat is a rare version with animal-head thumb-rests on the scroll handles.

The pouring lips have shell moulding with trellis and floral scroll ornament. The sides have garlands of oak leaves forming panels, within which are painted Chinese scenes in blue. The interior has a landscape scene of a river with figures in sampans surrounded by a rocky landscape and pavilions.

Marks:  Workman’s mark to base

Condition:  A very small rim chip close to one handle, otherwise very good
