This is the larger of the two sizes of jug so far recorded, another of which has been noted with the ‘Elephant’ print. These rare porcelains were made between about 1793 and 1796, after which date John Rose commenced manufacturing a hybrid hard paste porcelain at Coalport.
These porcelains are thought to be of a soft paste body, using soap rock in the recipe. Few wares have been identified to date, but include mugs, jugs and teawares.
Condition: Fire fault to inside of handle.
